Prior to 1498, peaceful trade remained the norm in the Indian Ocean.  But once the Portuguese had discovered the new route to India, war with the unarmed free-trading merchants became inevitable. Trade became systematically tariffed through the use of force.  While colonization of Costal Africa, India and Asia created an unprecedented flow of wealth to Western countries, the devastation to the local communities was immense. 

We at Unarmed Merchants intend to recreate the peaceful fair trade that existed prior the British East India Company's unlawful occupation of those trade routes by providing each of our clients an opportunity to support global community through local efforts.
